mark hughes: can anyone clarify what this guy is talking about after lining up the timing marks then turn the engine 3 times, what is the purpose of doing that. I have always been taught that you line the timing marks up with number one piston up firing, if the rotor isnt pointing to number 1 on the distributor, then you need to pull the distributor and rotate it to get it to point to number 1. I am confused to this please someone clarify this guy's post

Ger Repair: So that's why my '88 4.3 tbi is back firing. I thought it was set to #1 TDC, but it is actually #4.

william THOMPSON: Hi Brian. On my 2000 S10 4.3 Vortec. If the crank was rotated after chain & gears were removed, How do you determine TDC on #4 without knowing true TDC on #1 to begin with?
