Brian Mitchell: I've never had that problem, u could try that but be carefull it's not an
interference motor you could bend the valves or worse. Good luck.
7351rick: I have a problem with a 4.3 in a 2000 GMC. It has 164,000 miles I believe
it to have the original timing chain so I am thinking my misfire P0300 is
because of chain stretch. I also had a leaky lower intake manifold gasket
and water in the oil. So I had to remove the distributor in order to
replace the gaskets. I have it installed correctly. It did not misfire as
bad before replacing the gasket. However before if I revved up the motor
and released the throttle it would stumble and die. I also have a P0122 and
a P1122 TPS cods. I asked the dealer about reprogramming “relearning” the
computer timing and they said that that is not necessary on a 2000 GMC 4.3?
So, my question to you is can I elongate the distributor hold down clamp
hole in order to adjust the timing as in a 1995 and older Vortec?
Mark Edwards: Any ideas how to make sure the balance shaft is aligned correctly? Thanks -
also, I didn't see a tensioner for the chain in there... is that right or
am I missing it? Thanks!
Brian Mitchell: You can pull it off and then trim the corners
Finnigan9: If u don't take the oil pan off be DAMN SURE to not let ANY gasket or other
debris fall into the pan. It can stop your oil pump, then you'd be taking
the pan off anyway and maybe doing a lot more engine work. I've stuffed
rags into the gap, musta got some debris in it anyway cause I still ended
up with a jammed oil pump.
Brian Mitchell: Any model with a balancer shaft also has alignment marks for it
Brian Mitchell: This model has no balancer shaft and there is no chain tensioner most
timing chains don't have tensioners they usually have guides
Brian Mitchell: I was told by a Chevy dealer mechanic that you don't have to put it on #4
cly. You can have it on #1 or #4 or #6 it doesn't matter, it'll still be in
Brian Mitchell: I agree with @Finnigan9 I should have mentioned that. Sorry.
